SugarCRM’s “Behind the Smokescreen” Campaign – a Huge Success

Wow. That is all I can say.

When we first thought up the idea of spoofing Marc Benioff’s latest tome – we really did not think that the prank would generate this much press. Nor did we think it would be one of the most talked about spectacles at Dreamforce.

Even Newsweek covered the guerrilla campaign, as did many other outlets. And of course, a huge thanks to all those who tweeted their support – I am surprised it did not become a trending topic on Twitter’s front page…

The actual book was scooped up by Dreamforce attendees at an alarming rate – we ran out of the books in minutes!  Here’s some video of the  great team that helped us out, chatting it up with an SFDC employee:

I am getting tons of requests by partners, customers, and other people that couldn’t get their hands on the real thing. It’s a hot commodity – even up for sale on ebay and getting bids.
