SugarCRM Useful Tip – RSS/Blog Feed

Have you ever wanted to add an RSS or Blog feed to your SugarCRM Home screen?

Simply click on “Add Sugar Dashlets” at the top right of your home screen and click on the Web tab.

Enter the URL of the RSS/Blog feed (e.g. www.sugaruk.co.uk/blog/feed) into the News Feed box and click Add“. It will now appear on your homepage for you to drag to where you want.

You can also add webpages/sites to your homepages too by using the Website box.

Not only this, but you can also change the dashlet’s height by hovering on the title bar of the dashlet and clicking on “Edit Dashlet“. You will then see amongst the options, the height option, where you can specify (in pixels) how high you want the dashlet window to be, in order to show more or less information in the initial view. In version 6.2 a new feature has also been added allowing you to auto-refresh individual dashlets at set intervals to save you having to keep refreshing the entire screen in order to keep up to date with your blogs etc.

  1. I’m trying to add the CNN news blog and it keeps saying “RSS Failed to load”. Am I doing something wrong?

  2. Portia, if you are trying to use one of the feeds of the CNN.com website (e.g. “This Just In”, then you will need to click on the “Subscribe XML” link and copy the URL into your SugarCRM RSS field – http://news.blogs.cnn.com/feed/). It is always worth checking that it is the “feed” of the blog/rss you are using and not just a link to the HTML overview page.

    Hope this helps
    Mike
