Ok, Now Let’s See What Open Source and SaaS Can Really Do Together…

Much has been said about SaaS and open source being the biggest drivers in application software in recent memory. Great news for someone like SugarCRM, since we develop on an open source model and make available our CRM solutions via the SaaS model.

But many purists, and pragmatists alike, see SaaS and open source as a bit exclusive of each other. Since SaaS is usually a product pretty locked up in terms of user access, how can it be “open source?”

I think the OSI’s acceptance of the Affero GPL license should change some of this. I want to see the ways that open source apps delivered via the SaaS model are taken up by partners and developers. It could get interesting…

At least, these two terms that have been thrown around together can finally converge and make more sense together…
